Hello, I’m a part of Konoha Corner(sasori) and I was wondering if you wanted me to ask my Voice Acting Mentor, Scott Rummell, if you guys would like for him to come on. He actually recorded a bit for CNN when the earthquake and tsunami hit in Japan. If you would like me to just tell me what time you guys would like him on. I live in California and he lives down the street so same time and everything. Just let me know.

    Sincerely,

    Nicole Schroeder

I have already donated to Japan and will do what I can to help. I have been through a disaster (Katrina and not New Orleans but where the storm actually destroyed everything on coast) and I saw a LOT of help from the churches and so on, but what I’m curious about is this: how many of you helped with something besides this? Hire many of you are donating just to get your previous manga and anime back instead of wanting to truly help because its the RIGHT thing to do. Voice actors are you doing it because that is your source of income our did you do the same for those of us who lost everything in Katrina? What about the people in Haiti? Are you just trying to be self righteous for your own interest out are you doing it out of sincere concern for others. If it if for ant form if self indulgence our self interest, you are doing it for the wrong reason and need to go back and think on what you want in life, what kind if impact you want to make and what kind of legacy you want to leave. All these bands and entertainers with millions sit there and will donate ten or twenty thousand and brag patting themselves on the back like they did something good when it was at no cost to them. Often it is things like this where it is others donating THEIR money and those heading it up do no donations of their own. Please be better than that, you are voice actors yes, but people look up to you and people recognize your voices as easily as Morgan Freeman’s or any other famous actor or musician. Please set the standard for others to follow and be a good example, role model, and leader. Voice acting isn’t easy, many actors can’t pull it off, not many can. People look up to that and respect it so please lead by doing your own donations as well. Do not be like Lady Gaga and so many others asking for donations and then being excited over something small. We can push for a lot more than the paltry amount your goal is set for. I will promote this on every sure I know, but please lead this. I don’t care is its under the table or behind the scenes, but please do more than host a podcast. The biggest impact you can have are your own donations and visiting and helping in the relief effort. You can record over there if you’re worried about work but I think the fans can and will understand and appreciate if a release is a little late to help. I know I would.

I don’t think that the people affected by the disasters care whether or not the donations that they receive are done for self gratitude; that’s £20,000 that they’re receiving to benefit them.
So what if people are donating money to feel good about themselves, or because this time it’s affected them? I don’t see what difference that makes to the people whom the money is benefiting.

I’m with Cure, seriously who cares? I mean, I love the Japenese people not nessasarily because of their manga but because of their beautiful culture and their general inteligence. But what are you trying to say? That just because these people are doing it to feel good means that they shouldn’t give at all? If that is the case, you seriously need to rethink some stuff dude. Japan is in a serious straight right now and they need all the help they can get, self-serving or not.

    Hello Twitches,

I think what you’re suggesting there is that if we didn’t respond to one tragedy, why are we repsonding to this one and are the guests repsonding beacuse they’re worried about their work.

You raise genuine concerns but I don’t think anyone involved with the project has their own well-being in question. Japan will continue and rebuild and work will continue to be provided for all in the industry. As you have probably seen, manga authors and animators are now hard at work on relief projects as well as their own work as confirmed by Tetsu Inada and the stream of images we’ve seen emerging from the industry.

The guests are doing exactly what the manga authors and animators are doing, their jobs. At a time like this it’s important to do whatever we can and that is precisely what we’re all doing here. They’ve made us laugh and cry over the years. They have the power to move us and that’s what they’re trying to do here and at their own events. Please note, this is just one of many projects some of the guests are involved in.

As for addressing every emergency it’s important to draw realistic lines. As the Japanese anime and manga community has one single uniting theme, Japan, when that uniting factor is in trouble, it’s important to draw as much attention to it as possible because the bond and dedication are that much stronger. It would be amazing if we could draw attention to every emergency and every tragedy but you’re simply not going to find the same level of support.

However, there is one point that bothers me about your comment. You suggested that our goal is ‘paltry’. In that comment you’ve insulted any amount given below $25,000. You have essentially slapped the churches, the community centers and the schools around the world making donations below $25,000. That leads me to believe your comment stems from something more personal in which event I’d like to ask you to put that aside and support Japan any way you can, even if it doesn’t involve this project.

Like I said in my last post, I am in no means insulting those donating, they are doing everything within their means but those I mentioned have loads of means and no actions of their own. Everyone donating I have respect for.

    Hey,
I think this is an amazing idea and seriously, it’s so good to see so many amazing guests willing to give up their time to help those in need. I’ve donated to here, but i’m going to be away this weekend so i won’t be able to see the podcast. Will there be any way of downloading it or watching it after this weekend?

Thanks for your comment Callan! Yes, we’ll be working to make the audio available but given the amount of material it will be some time before we get it organized and available. There will be more details as we get closer.

I am not insulting the churches, they are doing what is in their means and more. I’m insulting those with money to throw away on multi million dollar houses and cars yet instead of donating their own time and money give “part of the proceeds” ot even “all of the proceeds” from one day or one small thing they do instead of actually investing an interest in others. Churches are doing what people should be doing and more. I know this is nowhere near an ideal world but it pains me seeing people preach peace and unity but they don’t even take the time to help others in need. Churches do it daily and not with any hint of self interest.

I feel like if you’re going to be bitter and negative you should not post at all, unless you have something better to say. It doesn’t make people feel positive and encourage to do anything especially at times of need. I believe that rich people are the ones who DO give the most. And if I was rich I know I would. This world is not made of heartless people.

Though your accusations greatly upset me, I can tell that they come from a genuine place, so I will only say this:

It is unfair for you to judge everyone here and assume you know how they’ve spent their time and what causes they have contributed to, nor do you have any way of knowing what anyone’s motives are. Yet you assume to understand the feelings and lives of everyone involved and lash out accordingly. Though I understand your concerns, all you are doing is hindering the cause through your negativity.

Once again, I get the impression that your feelings come from a genuine and personal place, but please don’t stand up there and judge from your tower when you have no real idea as to anyone’s life circumstances.
