Anime Fans Give Back to Japan Donate. Help. Hope.

12Mar/121

Thank You!

I want to thank every single one of you who donated, listened, spread the word, or took part in our second Anime Fans Give Back to Japan event. We raised for GlobalGiving's Japan funds $41,405 total, including $10,705 during the marathon this year thanks to all of your generous help! The anime community once again banded together and showed what they're capable of! Donations ALWAYS remain open.

GlobalGiving has posted a post on the progress made because of your donations over the past year.

We will be posting the event in its entirety starting in around two weeks on this site and on YouTube. We have saved the full 24 hours to several different computers to prevent what happened to last year's event. The video of the event has also been recorded, so it will likely be on our YouTube page: http://youtube.com/animefansgiveback and also on our podcast feed (link on the right).

Assuming we do this again next year, if anyone has a cause they feel needs attention, feel free to post it in the comments below.

Thank you all again for watching, and for donating. Bang.

One Week: A Guest Announcements Bonanza

It's only one week until Anime Fans Give Back 2 Japan begins, and we're ready to make some announcements as to new guests and new podcasts that will be joining us this year. Save up what you can, and make sure to spread the word about this year's event. It will be broadcast here, on this website, as well as on UStream. We will continue to roll out some announcements as to guests this week. We will also be making some announcements on this week's One Piece Podcast.

We are happy to announce that Beau Billingslea will be joining us on this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. He will be joining Wendee Lee and Steve Blum for a segment on Cowboy Bebop and more. For those who don't know Mr. Billingslea, he played Jet in Cowboy Bebop, the Narrator in Outlaw Star as well as prominent roles in Naruto, Samurai Champloo, and Rurouni Kenshin. He is a prolific actor in live-action television series and a prolific video game voice actor as well.

We are happy to announce that the cast of Madoka Magica will be joining us, including Christine Cabanos, Cristina Vee, and Sarah Williams. You may know Cristina Vee from K-On, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and formerly of AnimeTV. Christine Cabanos played roles on K-On, Squidgirl, and more and has been production assistant on series including Durarara!!, Redline, and K-On. Sarah Williams is a relative newcomer to anime, but has also lent her voice to Squidgirl. We're excited to get the chance to all three of them about the hit Madoka Magica and more this weekend!

We are happy to announce that Clarine Harp and Antimere Robinson will be joining us to discuss their work at FUNimation Entertainment. Clarine Harp has lent her voice in Hetalia, One Piece, Shin Chan, Speed Grapher, Corpse Princess and has produced DVDs for Ouran High School Host Club, Hetalia, Dragonball Z Kai, Yuyu Hakusho, One Piece, and many, many more. Antimere Robinson has lent his voice to Speed Grapher, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and One Piece. He has designed DVD sleeves, packaging, and menus for Dragonball Z, Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, Summer Wars, and more. We're looking forward to having them on to talk about everything that goes on behind the scenes in making your anime DVDs and blu-rays.

We also want to thank Anime News Network, Daizenshuu EX, The AniManga Podcast, and Chainsaw Buffet for coming on this year.

We will be making another round of announcements tomorrow. Our schedule will also be out early this week, and because the marathon falls on Daylights Savings it may make things confusing...but we'll be sure to make it as simple as we possibly can and continually go through the schedule visually and aurally. Be sure to donate all week long. Donations always remain open, just click the "DONATE" button to your right, or click here.

Guest Announcement: Steve Blum and Wendee Lee

We are "Anime Fans Give Back," a charitable organization raising money for the victims of last year's Japanese earthquake and tsunami. We raised over $30,000 last year, and this year we're aiming to bring that total to $50,000.

Sorry it's been so long since the last announcement, but we have a couple of big ones:

We are happy to announce that Steve Blum will be joining us on this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. He's the man who voiced all your favorite shows: Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop, Roger Smith in The Big O, Tom in Toonami, Mugen in Samurai Champloo, and that's just the tip of the iceburg. Steve Blum has provided his voice to video games, animated series and movies, and a lot of anime. Check out his site for more. We want to thank him for coming on last year's show, it was an honor, and we look forward to having him on again this year!

We are happy to announce that Wendee Lee will be joining us on this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. She is one of the main reasons why last year's Anime Fans Give Back was so successful, and devoted her time and energy to helping those in need last year. You may have heard her as Faye in Cowboy Bebop, Haruhi Suzumiya in The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Tatsuki and Yoruichi in Bleach, Kei in Akira, Kiyone in Tenchi Muyo! and so many more! She is an accomplished voice actress in and out of the anime industry and an ADR director and writer. We want to thank Wendee for all her hard work, and we look forward to having her on again this year!

Here's what Wendee Lee put together for last year

There's a ton more where this came from! Keep an eye out around the Internet for a full list of guests, coming soon! See you on March 10th!

9Feb/120

Guest Announcement: Mike McFarland, Patrick Seitz, and Maile Flanagan

We have been kind of quiet this week, so to make it up to you, we have three guests:

We are happy to announce that Maile Flanagan will be joining us on this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. Maile is best known for her role as Naruto Uzumaki on Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden. She has a prolific career both in and out of anime and has had roles in The Office, Grey's Anatomy, and Reno 911. She's also a star in the children's series "Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks." Maile was nice enough to fill in for some open spots we had on last year's show, and was a huge help in making it the success it was. We're thrilled to have her on again this year.

We are happy to announce that Mike McFarland will be joining us on this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. Mike is an ADR Director and Voice Actor at FUNimation Entertainment. He has directed shows like One Piece, all of Fullmetal Alchemist in its many incarnations, the recent Evangelion movies, Yuyu Hakusho, and Summer Wars. He's lent his voice to Dragonball Z, Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece, and almost every other FUNimation show under the sun. We want to thank him for coming on last year (and on The One Piece Podcast just weeks ago) and can't wait to talk to him again next month!

We are happy to announce that Patrick Seitz will be joining us on this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. Patrick is an avid video game voice actor (and enthusiast) as well as a prolific anime voice actor. You may have heard him in Durarara!!, Monster, Fairy Tail, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Kekkaishi, and One Piece. We want to thank him again for coming on last year, and we can't wait to speak to him this year!

If you'd like to be on our event this year, e-mail us quick, spots are running out! We have a ton of guests who aren't voice actors (and always looking for ANYONE involved in the industry or in anime), so e-mail us if you'd like to be on or let the guest you want on know about this event. You can email us at AnimeFansGiveBack@gmail.com!

We still have a ton of guests to announce. We're also going to be announcing our fundraising goal and organization for this year in the next week or so. Stay tuned!

3Feb/120

Guest Announcement: Michelle Ruff and Jessica Straus

Since we missed out on an announcement yesterday, I thought I'd end the week with a double announcement:

We are happy to announce that Michelle Ruff will be joining us on this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. Michelle is a prolific voice actor who is better known for her role as Rukia in Bleach. She has also lent her voice to Durarara!!, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, Trigun, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Chobits, Gurren Lagann, Lupin the 3rd, and many, many more. We want to thank her for coming on last year's marathon, and we're looking forward to having her on this year. Check out her website.

We are happy to announce that Jessica Straus will be joining us on this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. Jessica has lent her voice to FLCL, Wolf's Rain, Code Geass, Eureka Seven, and Rave Master, and she is also a prolific video game voice actor. We want to also thank her for coming on our show last year, and we're excited to have her on the show this year as well.

I want to give a big thanks to our partners at Anime News Network and at Anime Expo Live for their help last year and we're happy to say that they will be on the show this year as well. Their help, without a doubt, made last year's event the success it was. We'll be posting more about our partners through the coming weeks. Thanks!

We'll be back on Monday with the next round of announcements. See ya then!

1Feb/120

Guest Announcement: Christopher R. Sabat

Sabat

We are happy to announce that Chris Sabat will be joining us for this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. Mr. Sabat has a voice that will shatter your ears with its bravado. He is best known for his work on the Dragonball franchise where he most famously voiced Vegeta and Piccolo. He also voices Zoro on One Piece, Alex Louis Armstrong on Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Kuwabara in Yu Yu Hakusho, and many, many more. He also is the founder and director of Okratron 5000.

Tomorrow we'll have our next guest announcement, so make sure to come back. The marathon begins March 10th and runs for 24 hours. Have suggestions for show segments or guests? Let us know in the comments below or on our Twitter or Facebook page.

31Jan/120

Guest Announcement: J. Michael Tatum and Stephen Hoff

For today's announcements, I'm glad to let you know that we will have the entire cast of That Anime Show.

We are happy to announce that J. Michael Tatum will be joining us for this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. Mr. Tatum has lent his voice to practically everything recently, you may know him for his role as Sebastian in Black Butler or his role as France in Hetalia, maybe Scar from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, or perhaps his role as Eneru in One Piece. He's a veteran voice actor, ADR Director, and script writer for FUNimation. He is the co-host of That Anime Show with his partner in crime, Terri Doty, who will also be on our marathon on March 10th-11th.

We are happy to announce that Stephen Hoff will be joining us for this year's "Anime Fans Give Back to Japan" marathon. Stephen lends his technical support to That Anime Show in the shadows, but during our marathon you'll actually hear his voice. He is a veteran ADR Engineer, a job that you may not know much about but takes an extraordinary amount of talent. He has provided his engineering skills to Black Butler, One Piece, Sgt. Frog, and a whole lot more.

Check back tomorrow for our next round of announcements!
